In 2023, Rooted to Last (R2L) began a journey of deep listening, learning, strategizing, and development of an initiative to build enduring infrastructure for Minnesota’s leaders and communities of color. This culminated in developing a framework intended to:
- Guide our work,
- Serve as an alignment tool for partnerships, and
- Ensure our work is part of an ecosystem of winning outcomes.
We understand that accessing information such as this is difficult for communities of color. Our purpose is to be transparent about our approach and work so we can all collectively move to a world where everyone is part of a thriving community.

This framework could not have happened without our Wisdom Circle and partners. We conducted interviews with 28 cross sector leaders (25 leaders of color), held nearly 50 conversations, hosted five gatherings, and held four design retreats.
